Command to open IE Control Panel on specific zone?

OK, to open the IE Control Panel on the Security tab, one uses either:

    control inetcpl.cpl,,1

    -or-

    rundll32.exe shell32.dll,Control_RunDLL inetcpl.cpl,,1

Run either of those from a Run box, and you get the Control Panel open on the Security tab. However, IE does something slightly different when you click the Zone icon in the Status bar. It opens the IE Control panel with only the Security tab displayed (no other tab), and it opens with the specified zone already selected! Slick.

But... How do I do that??

I can find this information: LaunchSecurityDialog Function -- but that still is not telling me how to open the box with a specific zone pre-selected. I want it to open with the Restricted sites zone selected.

    Thanks.

R2, do you have a Windows "message" sniffer or other tool that captures program calls? The Zone Settings... button on Outlook's Security tab will open to the Restricted Zone. Maybe you can catch something "in transit" that sheds light.

Thanks. Jefferson, I tried using Spy++ -- but most of what I retrieved was not helpful. Sure, it sent messages for every minute little mouse movement -- but I could not find out anything of value. I'll try more later, but my first attempt was a bust.

Maybe Outlook will be more helpful...

Here's the capture for Outlook. Doesn't look like much to me...

Hmmm. We need one that watches for DLL calls, but I don't know which one that would be.

FileMon (sysinternals) tells me what files are accessed, but not what actual calls are made. There must be some program that can grab this data...

I have that too, but I don't think it will pick up the API calls.

I was given this lead: API Monitor -- but I have heard it does not play well on some machines.

Don't know if this is what you are looking for, but the MS Windows 2000 Resource Kit site has a free tool you can download called APIMon, which as name implies is an API Monitor utility. Since it's an MS utility it should work correctly in a Windows environment. I haven't tried it yet so don't know how well it works, may want to check it out. Link:

    Windows 2000 - Technical Resources - Resource Kits - Apimon.exe: API Monitor

Re: Command to open IE Control Panel on specific zone?

Thanks. I am using Win98 (yeah, I know -- time to grow up), and I am not sure if that will work. However... I got SOME API data using the program I listed above.

It lead me to these sections of the MSDN:

    URL Security Zones
    Internet Security Manager Object
    <A target="_blank" HREF="http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/workshop/security/szone/reference/objects/internetzonemanager.asp">Internet Zone Manager Object
    </A>

    Might be something useful there....
