Unwanted Takeover? (Internet Explorer)

Can a someone help me? About 1 week ago when launching IE my laptop began automatically opening to a "site or search engine" by the name of, Search the Web. How can I keep this from happening? It is very frustating and irks me to no end. Please be plain and simple with me, for I have only enough computer knowledge to be dangerous!!! Thank you for any help or understanding you can give me.

Your browser may have been hijacked by an evil script. Have you tried resetting your homepage in Internet Explorer's options? If it continues to misbehave after that, the fix would be far different than if it does not.

Thank you, I reset my homepage, which was set on my correct location. I not sure this will take of the promblem. The homepage does open correctly and used to open correctly but soon after (15 seconds) it would then open this "Search the Web". I noticed also, it is in my taskbar in the "Search", the only catorgory. I was able to close the site and for the most part stayed closed, only periodically reopening. I did a virus scan with McAfee and the results were clean. Any more thoughts? Thanks

You may have something untoward running in the background that is causing this to happen that is not necessarily part of Internet Explorer. It might be a good idea to download, install and run a spyware checking tool such as AdAware or Spybot Search and Destroy (many prefer to run both for assurance). From your description, it sounds as though you have pop-up windows occurring and not a problem with IE in and of itself.

OK. I went to the site and browsed for a minute. Is this site safe and is there a fee? Thank you for all your help

Safe, yes - and there is a free version that should do all you need it to.
