    AutoCorrect list/get rid of prompt to install

    I have just installed the Greek keyboard to type Greek in Word.

    I have no problems at all on my office machine running NT4 and Office 2000.

    However, on my home computer running Windows 2000 and Office 2000 I am prompted every 10 seconds or so "Word cannot access AutoCorrect lists since this feature is not installed, would you like to install it now?". The install will not work (this feature only comes on the proofing tools CD which must be purchased separately for abotu $75). However, when I press cancel I still get asked the same question again in about 10-20 seconds, which needless to say is really annoying. Does anyone know how I can get rid of this message?

    Have you tried turning off Autocorrect?

    Tools/Autocorrect
    On autocorrect tab uncheck 'Replace text as you type'

    Bob,

    thanks for your reply. I tried to turn autocorrect of yesterday without any luck.

    This is not really a satisfactory solution either; there is only one set of settings for all languages and I would like to use Autocorrect with English (though I suppose you could turn autocorrect off and on).

    I am really puzzled why this works fine on NT4 + Office 2000 but why I am prompted to install Office Proofing Tools every 10-20 seconds in Windows 2000 + Office 2000.

    Stab in the dark:
    Is Word in fact looking for a Greek AutoCorrect file?
    I believe they have an .acl extension (???) - might be worth searching for what you have on the two systems and copying from NT to W2K any additional ones. Even if it has dummy information, it may stop the reminders.

    Otherwise, do you have 'Auto-Keyboard Switching' selected? Supposedly in Tools | Options | Edit - but not on my system - maybe only added when another keyboard is used. Try toggling that if you have it.

    Thanks for the tip on the *.acl files, this is certainly worth a try. (Toggeling the autokeyboard select unfortunately does not work).

    Let us know if the .acl files trick does work - may be useful for someone in the future.

    Re: AutoCorrect list/get rid of prompt to install

    I added the *.acl files from the system running NT that I could not find under on the system running WIndows 2000. Unfortunately this did not solve the problem.

    Maybe there are *.acl files for Greek on both system and that what I need to do is to replace one with the other, does anyone know what languages the different numbers (e.g, 1033, 1048 etc.) correspond to?

    Re: AutoCorrect list/get rid of prompt to install

    A bit of experimentation (using Explorer and dragging the MSO.ACL files into Notepad) appears to show that:
    1033 = English
    1034 = Spanish
    1036 = French

    Maybe 1048 = Greek?
