Uninstall MSN Messenger from taskbar (WinXP Home Edition)

Hi all: I keep going into Start|Run|msconfig and unchecking the box that puts MSN Messenger on the task bar, and when I reboot, there it is. Does anyone have any ideas on how I can permanently remove it from the task bar? I used to have notes on it and lost them.

    Thanks. <img src=/S/boxedin.gif border=0 alt=boxedin width=25 height=20>
