    remote location (2000)

    Hi,
I'll soon have a staff member working from home in a current Access db. I've been testing a dial up connection into my server and it is pitifully slow (33k). I've set the db locally on the remote pc and linked to the tables db on a common server drive. They'll be retrieving some lists and reports, and adding some simple records and such. How can I speed this up? Is there a better way to get this done?

    Thanks,
    Dave

In this case, you need to do everything on the network and minimize what comes down to the remote PC. Use Terminal Server or a product such as pcAnywhere. Then, only screen updates are transmitted to the remote PC, rather than trying to actually pull data down the line. With dial-up, however, it will still be slow regardless of what you use.
