Mailing labels for Outlook category (XP)

I have read in detail the Holiday card and letter superguides (parts 1 & 2) that Woody did in 2002. His instructions do not tell me how to make mailing labels.

I have set up a category called "Xmas cards" and added that category to all the contacts to which I wish to send cards. How can I print mailing labels for this category?

If you do mean the Woody 2002 series. Try the 2001 series - where it looks like he mentions it in issue 53. See <!post=this post,320716>this post<!/post> for the link. HTH

The things from 2001 were incorporated into his 2002 instructions. And none of it includes anything about mailing labels -- only mail merging the name into the document (Dear <<friend>>) and doing envelopes. I've tried everything i can think of in the Outlook Mail Merge and I can get address labels, but on some of them the city is missing -- even though I have double checked the contact and it appears OK. Very frustrating.

All I personally can suggest is looking over at the Word Forum. I know Search is down, but there is a partial workaround. If you click on the "Subject" heading, you'll find that all the threads are sorted by title. There are a fair few on Mail Merge. I do not know, however, whether any specifically deal with your issue. Thanks for trying. I'm running out of time, so I did the best I could and manually changed those that were wrong! Not a perfect solution -- and not one my compulsive brain usually settles for -- but it's the best for now! Thanks for your help.

Re: Mailing labels for Outlook category (XP)

Looks like you and I have the same problem. My Christmas Cards have all been sent now but getting mailing labels out of Outlook was a failure. I have "Using Microsoft Office 2000" which has no reference to producing Mailing Labels from Outlook 2000.
However I found Chapter 42 referred to allowing Access 2000 to link to the Outlook data - and I know how to produce labels from Access. However following the instructions failed to bring up the linking wizard - don't know why.
So next attempt was to export the data from Outlook into Access - only problem was there are many unwanted fields in Outlook, so I had to prune hard to reduce to simply the name and address fields and hence produce labels.
Next problem, I did a draft print to check for errors and discovered that some addresses were out of date, and I was missing some - result I now have and Access database which is more up to date than my Outlook contacts list!
    My queries are
    (1) is there some clever way to get a mailing list from Outlook?
    (2) if I have to use the export option, how can I limit the number of fields exported?
    (3) is there some automatic way to match and update the Outlook file where the addresses have changed (with hindsight I should have flagged each address which I changed!)?

Select the contacts, choose tools, mail merge and when word opens, use the mail merge wizard (open task pane, choose mail merge if necessary) and select labels. Add the fields and complete the merge.

    1) Select the contacts, Tools, mail merge and choose labels.
    2) no need to export.
    3) not sure i understand the question. However, I always merge to a document so i can review and edit addresses before printing.

There is some information about merging here
