    yp characters (Outlook 98)

Sometimes I get HTML email like the one in the attachment with just
y (with an umlaut over it)p< in the first line and nothing else.

A Google search does not reveal much just this:

    The 2 characters

You might try zipping up the attachment to get it onto the board. Does this happen with "real" messages or with junk mail messages? The software used by spammers to generate bulk mail seems pretty flaky, or maybe they just don't read the manual carefully. Whatever the cause, a lot of odd, corrupted messages are broken spam.

If you "view source" for the message, does it look like ordinary HTML? I guess the question presupposes that you're somewhat familiar with what HTML message bodies look like... If you save the message as a .htm file and open it in a browser, does it work? Please only do that with a message from someone you trust, because the strict security for message bodies doesn't apply to messages saved as files.
