    Outlook closes immediately after opening (Outlook 2003)

    Over the last week, or so, I have found Outlook closing and shutting down immediately after opening. I can't figure it out - but it seems to shut down right after loading Cloudmark's SpamNet which I have used for over a year and found far more effective than any other spam program.

    This just started happening out of the blue and I am now afraid to shut down Outlook for fear it won't open again. The only way I was able (on several occasions) to get it back was by using GoBack and reverting the hard drive. The only other add-in I have in Outlook is Adobe Acrobat file converter. I also installed Business Contact Manager but have not yet actually used the program.

    You might try starting outlook in safe mode. this will not load and add-ins. If outlook starts ok you might try running detect and repair from the help menu.

    To start in safe mode:
    1) Start button | Run
    2) Type "Outlook /safe" (without the ")

    Find and rename outcmd.dat. You can also disable spamnet and see if that fixes it. if so, check with cloudmark for an update.

    For some odd reason, it started working correctly - I closed Outlook and then got a bizarre message about templates which I opted to not save and after that Outlook has worked OK.

    But, anyway, thanks for taking the time to reply and I will keep your suggestions should the problem recur.
