    OLE Compound Doc (OLE2)

    Hi all,

I'm trying to deal with OLE compound documents without Microsoft API functions. I successfully read all that streams/storages etc, and now I'd like to read information about embedded objects. I made some assumptions about the binary format, but I failed to find any docs with the description of the ObjectPool storage, and LinkInfo stream especially.
Could you please share your experience or knowledge about the internal structure of the ObjectPool?

    Thanks in advance,
    Vladimir

    Re: OLE Compound Doc (OLE2)

I have those documents (Excel and Word BIFF description), but there is no any mention about linked objects there. Excel BIFF describes internal structure of WorkBook stream, and ObjectPool is another stream. I guess there should be some document (OLE 2 standard?) that contains general rules how information about linked objects is stored in OLE2 compound storage.
Link to Excel from the Word document looks line that: ObjectPool_1133079240LinkInfo (and ObjectPool_1133079240Ole)
Link to Word from the Excel file looks like that: LNK00E1F8D4Ole
(I used DocFile Viewer which comes with Visual Studio).

I've been lucky to live my life insulated from having to understand OLE. <img src=/S/grin.gif border=0 alt=grin width=15 height=15> So, sorry, I can't help you on that. I'm going to move this post over to the VB/VBA board in case someone there has more knowledge than me.
