Re: Word save as a temp file (office xp sp1)

Hi, can you explain this in a little more detail? Is Word:
    1.
Trying to save it into a temp folder (e.g., c:windowstemp or Temporary Internet Files), or

Adding a .tmp extension to the file name, instead of .doc, etc., or

Adding special characters to the file name (e.g., ~ at the beginning)?
Word does automatically create certain temp files while you work on a document. In fact, these are not necessarily the version you just saved, often they are the version you just replaced with the newly saved version. These files often contain WRD WRF and other W acronyms in the name. When you close the document normally (File>Close) these should be deleted automatically. If you create a new document in between (File>Save As), Word might not delete the W files until you end your Word session (File>Exit).

Hope this helps, and please post back wth your results or further questions.

Possibly your copy of Word is customized to do unusual things. This can result from well-intentioned administrators as well as viruses. To help diagnose this, you probably will need to temporarily disable customizations. See the post linked below, but BE CAREFUL about clearing temp files, since some of your temp files apparently are "real" files. Maybe just skip that step.
