It's not that Microsoft's software has never trashed a drive or done something wrong. The point of the statement was that every time there is a problem with Windows or any other Microsoft product, the Linux fanatics cry foul and speak of a stable, problem free world of computing based on open source and distort the facts. In reality all software has problems, but there is a definite denial reflex in the Linux camps, though, one to which most Linux faithful refuse to admit. THe Mac faithful also do much the same thing.

It's easy to pick on Microsoft. I do it, and just about everyone I know does it. Along these lines I will probably be excoriated and labeled a Microsoft defender, which I certainly am not. You just need to take the news in perspective.

Okay yes there are Mac and Unix based viruses and no nobody is perfect but

A fix time of about 48 hours is pretty good for something like this (patched installer)

Besides Unix is a secure and robust OS because thats the way it was made (i don't see unsecured admin accounts added by Unix upgraders do i???)

The list of MS security issues is how long at this moment???? (no fair counting just Windows include Office and IIS and the rest of the server
    clan)
Woody thinks 1 problem with a DEFECTIVE product is "funny"
The Penguins Think Windows Bugs by the Cartload is Very Funny

Has anybody checked to see is the OO.o spreadsheet knows what Random means??

I think I would say, "because Unix had a head start" and "because the default installation is more locked down." Let's not forget: Kevin Mitnick wasn't hacking Windows. The Unix community learned its lessons the hard way just like Microsoft. But Windows exploits are more newsworthy because so many more consumers and businesses are at risk, and because many more people want to make a name for themselves attacking Windows users. This is not to say that Windows security shouldn't be better; it should. But let's not pretend that the history of Unix started with Linux.

That makes me think of the trucks I see. Ford, Dodge and Chevy, all of them have the little guy peeing on the other type of truck. It the <img src=/S/bif.gif border=0 alt=bif width=70 height=28> "My Dad can whip your Dad" syndrome. To me I look at it like this, ya got this fisherman {Hacker} and this guy wants to catch a fish fast. He's got this big lake in front of him {Internet} with all these fish {Operating Systems}. There are the Microsoft Fish, the Linux,Red Hat,Lindows, and the Mac fish. Now he knows that there are a hell of a lot more Microsoft Fish, then there are Linux and Mac and the others. Which one do ya think he's gonna bait his hook for? The one he can catch the easiest and the most of, the plentiful Microsoft Fish.

"The Penguins." That phrase defines the attitude, does it not?

If the Penguins get their wish and Linux based operating systems command the PC desktops of the world, then Windows users will be thinking that Penguin security issues by the cartload are Very Funny. Careful what you wish for.

Nonsense like this does not further the true aim: secure computing. But as long as humanity exists, there will be flaws in software.
