Accessing public contact folders from Office (OutlookXP)

I would like to be able to access an Outlook Contacts folder from Word or Access. However, when I link to Outlook and select the folder, it doesn't include all the fields that I need (eg Categories). How do I access all the fields that I can add in the Contact form?

I'm not sure what you mean by "link" to Outlook. Are you using VB/VBA and declaring a ContactItem object? Or... ???

In Word I am simply referring to the Contact folder as a data source for a mail merge.
In Access I link a table to the same Contact folder.

I was wondering how to include some of the fields that aren't in the contact folder.

Categories may not appear in the tables generated from a Word mail merge import or Access import, but they are a valid ContactItem Property. How are you importing the data?

John, I am not importing the data, just linking to it. For example, in Access I set up a linked table and use the Contact folder as a data source. I am wondering how I can also link to the other information that I need.

(Edited by jscher2000 on 16-Dec-03 13:49. Whoops)
As someone recently pointed out to me, if you start your merge from inside Outlook, rather than inside Word, you get access to many more fields than you would otherwise. Hope that helps with Word. As for Access... I couldn't say.

Added: The above relates to the Contact folder in a PST. I have no idea what you would do with an Exchange server public folder, sorry.

When you access outlook data from outside outlook you'll get a limited selection of fields. When you push data from outlook you'll get all the fields.

That said, Randy Byrne pushished an article on connecting Outlook and Access a couple of years ago in a fawcette.com magazine and if i recall corectly, all fields were imported. You might find it on google.
