I do not use Eudora, but could the information be exported into a different format and then imported into Mozilla? If you could provide some additional detail on the process and results it would help.

The message storing formats used in Eudora and Mozilla are very similar. Does your member have some special View setting that they are using in Eudora? You member may also like to check the laguage setting in Tools|Options|Fonts and Languages to see whether some unusual setting had been made.

There are many, many, many paths lthat can be listed in prefs.js. Can you please ask your user to quote the line that they have changed in full - starting with user_pref(" - ? It is not at all clear what your member is trying to accomplish by editing the prefs.js file. Can they please let you know. Mozilla is designed so as not to store key information in the Registry.

Looking forward to receiving your further information.

Re: importing from Eudora to Mozilla Thunderbird (Mozilla Thunderbird )

    Hi

Here is a response from Paul Johnson
"I do not use Eudora or Thunderbird but am a big user of Mozilla. But I check around the websites and found that your problem is a know bug in both Mozilla and Thunderbird as well as in Netscape 4, 6 & 7 - so the bug has been around a long time.
There is a solution that comes in the form of a perl script - you will need to get hold of a version of perl to run it. The script is attached.
You run perl with this script on the Eudora folders (which are files with the same name as the folder with no extension - the script comments tells you which files to run this perl script on.

If you need a perl package to run the script - the follow are available -
    http://people.netscape.com/richm/nsPerl/ - pure command line - also smallest - 3.5Mb in size
    http://www.cpan.org/authors/id/G/GR/GRAHAMC/ - choose SiePerl-5.8.0-bin-1.0-Win32.INSTALL.exe <http://www.cpan.org/authors/id/G/GR/GRAHAMC/SiePerl-5.8.0-bin-1.0-Win32.INSTALL.exe> 18Mb in size - largest of 3
    http://www.activestate.com/Products/Downlo...x?id=ActivePerl - 9 - 8.6 or 11.9Mb - very popular as it has good windows like tools.
If all you are going to use perl for - choose the first 1 as it is the smallest and will do the job you need to do.

It seems that the problem has to do with the fact that many html emails stored in Eudora does not have the right content type setting line. This line tells Thunderbird and Mozilla what type of email this email is. With this content type line - Thunderbird thinks that the email is a text file. It seems that Eudora ignores the content type setting line so that when it see an html section, it just renders it correctly.
The perl script above inserts the required content type line on the messages that needs it.

Wonder why this is interpreted by someone as a "bug" in all those products listed at the beginning of your message? I've used every version of Netscape and Mozilla since day-one and have not been aware of this "bug" (in Eudora!)

Hey, if your piece of software can't walk on water and cope with all the non-W3C compliant tweaks put into other software, it must have a bug! <img src=/S/grin.gif border=0 alt=grin width=15 height=15>
