    Microsoft Photo Editor (Windows XP)

How do I make all of my jpeg photos open up in Microsoft Photo Editor by default instead of Paint?? It used to be Microsoft Photo Editor and then all of a sudden (have no idea what I did) it started opening up in Paint. I want to change it back to the way it was .... Thanks

    Try this:

In Windows Explorer, find a JPG file, right-click, choose Open With, then Choose Program...

In the list select (but don't double-click) Microsoft Photo Editor, then check the "Always use the selected program" checkbox, then click OK.

If Microsoft Photo Editor isn't already on the list, use the Browse... button to add it to the list, and then proceed as above.

It may be "Windows Picture and Fax Viewer".

Now running HP Pavilion a6528p, with Win7 64 Bit OS.

Oh, yes, I forgot. In Windows XP, the default action shifts from Open to Preview, which is handled by the application DaveA mentions. To change the default action you typically visit the File Types tab of the Folder Options dialog (Windows Explorer>Tools>Folder Options...>File Types> JPG>Advanced... and Whoa! it's not there. Preview is not there. How do they do that? Well, heck. The work-around is to right-click the JPG and choose Open.

Hmmm... Maybe there's an options dialog somewhere in the viewer or in the bowels of Windows that controls this. Must be, right? <img src=/S/grin.gif border=0 alt=grin width=15 height=15>
