Access error code 3043: (Access 2000)

    Hi,

I am at a loss as what to try next and would greatly appreciate some help.

    The problem:
I keep getting the following error 'Error code 3043: network or disc error' each time I try to open an Access database on a new PC.

    Setup:
The database application, data and system.mdw file are on a network server running Small Business Server 2000. The application and data are accessed from 7 workstations all of which are running w2k with sp4 and Office 2000 Pro. 6 of the machines are fine and do not have this problem. The Workstation in question is one of a pair which were bought recently, the other one is working fine.

    What I have tried:
Following information from newsgroups I have tried using a different NIC, network cable and network point. I've tried setting the environment variables Temp and TMP to point to c:WINNTTemp, after having checked that it exists! and then rebooting (MS KB article 150943).

I have compacted and repaired the database and relinked all the tables.

None of these things has made any difference.

I disconnected the network cable from the back of the workstation and connected a laptop, which was able to connect to the db on the server without any problem.

Following the advice of a support engineer I rebuilt the PC on Friday and still got the same error message.

I can't find anything else on the Internet that might help.

Thanks in advance for your help.

    Best wishes,

    Simon Long.

    <hr>...are running w2k with sp4... <hr>

    Have you applied Jet SP8?
We 'upgraded' some workstation images to W2K with SP4 (which contains Jet SP7) and it promptly broke Access 2K. Jet SP8 seemed to fix things.

    Just a thought. <img src=/S/shrug.gif border=0 alt=shrug width=39 height=15>

    Hi Steve,
Yes I have. According to MS update I've got all the updates I need for both W2K and Office 2K Pro.
    Thanks for your help.
    Best wishes,
    Simon.
