Archiving: Correct me if I'm wrong (Outlook 2000)

In archiving... it just takes email from all subfolders and dumps them to the Archive.PST file in the Inbox or the Sent Box. It does not file them to corresponding subfolders. Is this correct.

If so, how can people archive and still have their email file to the rcorresponding subfolders under Inbox and Sent?

Or do they have to create a rule for each subfolder in their current Profile?

Example:

Inbox
-- Project A
-- Project B

Files in Project A will go to a Project A subfolder in the Archive.PST if it is older than 14 days.

Personally, I archive by hand; which is also the advice given by Woody and a number of other sources.

This basically means means copying over folders by hand to a new PST and deleting the duplicated items from the main PST. Such a method has the definite advantage of preserving Custom Views. An alternative is simply creating a new PST and using that - instead of the old one. Both methods require a little more time up-front. Both methods save far more time in the long run if you ever have to carry out any quantity of searching.

These methods are quicker than they sound and do achieve the aims you are seeking.

I also manually archive (and only my Calendar, and certain very old messages, at that), but I'm fairly certain that archivng preserves the Folder structure. Anyone know for sure?

I dont have Outlook 2000, but in both Outlook 97 and Outlook XP the folder structure was preserved.
I do use autoarchive, and have had no trouble with it - other than management of archive folders of course <img src=/S/grin.gif border=0 alt=grin width=15 height=15>
