    Defrag under WinXP & Win2K

Is there a way to run defrag without granting admin rights to a user. I operate within a corporate domain and, quite rightly, the Group IT Manager wants to keep stringent control over access.

I'm leery of freeware, in these circumstances, and the commercial options are fairly expensive in an environment with 60+ PCs, that's just my site without counting the other 6.

Any advice will be gratefully received.

    TIA.

Not sure about XP, but Is-It-True may have a solution for your W2K stations...

    Granville--

If you were willing to get third party I think you might accomplish this with Diskeeper 8.0 or Perfect Disk and with Diskeeper you would want the Professional 8.0 version.

Spinning off of the excellent site that Leif linked, you may get something done here with the XP Portion of the site:

XP Defrag is Commandline Capable and Schedulable

I hope this can help. I really like the sound of that word--schedulable--it implies doable with a nice ring to it. <img src=/S/grin.gif border=0 alt=grin width=15 height=15>

I may be missing something, but his scheduled AT commands are wrong - he's put DEFRAGE instead of DEFRAG ...
And I don't know why he wants the scheduled job to be interactive.

Thanks all. I was looking at the Diskeeper option for early next year, when we start the move to a Windows2000 network. The Defrag Commander looks like it may even be better.

I'll have a go with the recommendation and report back, success or ... However it is Friday arvo so I'm pulling the pin and will try again come Monday.
