Opening or Printing Multiple Files Together (WinXP/SP-1)

We are having problems opening or printing multiple files together. I go to my desktop or windows explorer and select multiple files (it doesn't seem to matter what type...documents/spreadsheets/pdf files all fail) Then Right click the selected files and choose either Open or Print. The screen flashes briefly and then nothing happens. I cannot find any reference to this problem in the MSKB. Does anyone have any ideas?:

What printers are installed and what is your default printer?

Now running HP Pavilion a6528p, with Win7 64 Bit OS.

HP LaserJet 4100 TN is my default printer and the only one loaded. I don't think it is a printer setting though, since I cannot Right-click and Open multiple files as well.

Are you using MS Word as your email editor?

Check the "Task Manager" and make sure that Word is NOT running in the back ground, I have seen this prevent the use of Windows Explorer to open additional files.

But this should not affect other file types.

Word is not set as the email editor and no other versions of Word are running.

I'm not familiar with all the extension settings in Office, but I am with Word. Check under Start/Settings/Folder Options.../& then follow the steps in the attachment & see if you have the same settings, especially under Use DDE.

My screens look just like yours. Any other ideas?
