    Reducing file size (PPT 2k)

Powerpoint has got better over the years at reducing the file size for a presentation, but it doesnt take much of a background and heading logo to find yourself at 600k and above. If they are standard items then they get saved with every presentation = bloat

A long time ago Freelance had the ability to display logos etc which were referenced by, but not included in, a presentation. I can see no such facility advertised in PowerPoint, nor how to create the equivalent.

Am I missing something, or has anyone a neat trick to achieve the same result

    Thanks,

    Mike C

You can link images, yes, but I wouldn't recommend it for a variety of reasons. Do so by going to Insert/Picture/From File. On that dialog box, there's an Insert button with a small arrow to the right. Click that arrow, and choose Link to File.

I would suggest you read http://www.rdpslides.com/pptfaq/FAQ00062.htm -- there may be any number of reasons your file size has gotten out of hand, and not all will be because of the images. Also see http://www.powerpointbackgrounds.com...ttutorials.htm for information on "right-sizing" your images for screen/PPT in the first place.

Thanks for those references - I will follow them up. I did try linking, but I seem to remember that the file grew to the same size as if the picture had been embeded in the presentation.

May I get back to you after the reference search?

    cheers,

I seem to remember that the file grew to the same size as if the picture had been embeded in the presentation.

That would probably be Allow Fast Saves in action, then. Turning that off (or at least Saving As with a different name) is probably the one single best thing you can do to control your file sizes.

May I get back to you after the reference search?

    Sure.
