    Cell references between worksheets (2000)

I have a simple workbook with 2 sheets named Invoices and Dates. On the Invoices sheet, 3 cells reference cells on the Dates sheet with formulas like =Dates!B2 .(The referenced cells in the Dates worksheet contain text, not Excel dates.)

This works fine. However, I want to copy these forumlae down the rows in the Invoices sheet keeping the Cell reference unchanged. (All the rows need to have the same dates). However, when I edit the forumua to read =Dates!$B$2 it becomes text rather than a formula. Even if i edit it back to =Dates!B2 it is still text. Even if I delete the cell contents and re-do the formula by clicking, it remains text and therefore it does not pick up the contents of the referenced cell.

What am I doing wrong here?

Is the format of the cell "TEXT? (format -cells-number tab)

If it is change it to something else General or one of the other formats.

    Ralph,
Can you make a Range Name for the date in question? Then you just copy, say "=Inv_Date" wherever you need it. That also helps in the readability for you.

Great Idea! Since this sheet will be used by others, that will make it a little harder to mess up.
