    W2K install

Can one re-install W2K MS version without full re-format as one can do with 95/98? I know the W2K version provided by Dell requires a full format up install.

    Re: W2K install

I just had a Blue Stop screen and could NOT get Windows 2000 restarted. So I booted to Windows 98, and went to setup on the Windows 2000 CD, after the normal startup, the system asked if I wanted to do a Complete or Repair since it found the OS. Works like a charm, less than 10 minutes and I was back up and running. This is a Retail copy of MS Windows 2000 Pro.

Now running HP Pavilion a6528p, with Win7 64 Bit OS.

    Re: W2K install

Thank you. I am beginning to suspect that Dell's W2K copy does not do this so as to prevent "horrors of horrors" a user installation of the purchased software on another non Dell system. It would appear that all systems with a major vendors name on them are proprietary. I've learned my lesson--the education only cost $2500.00
