winxp network slowdown accessing win2000 files (pre-sp1)

hi --

i've noticed considerable slowness in my xp machine copying files from my win2000 machine ... getting into the win2000 machine's file folders is quick, but then it takes a long time to paint the icons of the files that i'm copying ... and, even after the icons are painted, the copy operation is slow as is the paste operation .... (i have 2 win2000 machines on this network and this copy operation has not been a problem)

i've deleted the key under namespace in regedit, a tweak that i noticed somewhere, but that did not help

i have not noticed a similar slowness in accessing the internet, only on xp - 2000 intra-network ops

any suggestions?

Could this be related to scanning all of those files for viruses before displaying them? If you find that the file size affects the display time (e.g., big zip files take longer to appear on the list than little GIF files), you might try disabling scanning of the remove machine from your XP machine. I'm not sure if you can do this by UNC (e.g., win2kpcdocs) or you can only do it by drive letter. This will depend on your software, I suppose.
