Dave

In both cases my Live Update live updated NAV automatically! I got a little message in the bottom RHS of the screen when I logged on.

Doesn't yours?

I posted this for those of us who do NOT use Auto update. And there are some out there that have stated that Norton's have not and will not post any special updates.

That's the 2nd, or 3rd, update to include program changes, in addition to virus definitions sonce 17 Dec 2003.

Re: Nav Update

I don't pay any attention to Live Update because it just isn't as frequent as manually updating from Intelligent Updater. Whether that means anything in the scheme of things, I don't know but Symantec says it does--I don't even know if I'm right in doing so, or if it's best practice for home or small business desktops--I think it is. It may just be in my head but I feel like I get the most frequent definitions available to a non-enterprise set up. I get them Mon-Friday, and via this means rarely are they proferred on weekends. When Blaster hit they were for example.

I've gotten updates everyday this week from this site below, but I expect unless "something's up" in virus land that's of major significance, the people at Symantec won't be putting anything at the site below on Thursday Christmas but will probably do so on Friday unless they consider Friday part of a Holiday weekend--and then you won't see any until Monday December 29.

Re: Nav Update

Seasons greetings Dave, thanks for this post, I have auto update but mine failed to log onto Norton automatically too. Had I not seen this I would have thought I was done when it was not so. Always useful to have it mentioned in here, Im grateful.

Re: Nav Update

There are supposedly virus definitions every day, but those made available via LiveUpdate are usually updated only once per week.

Using Live Update also includes prpgram update.
I do not know whether Intelligent Updater also includes program updates.

Re: Nav Update

Howard--

I just know this. I've been following any source a home/small business user of NAV could access from them for more than three years. You are completely right about Live Update--it comes to life or goes "live" to do anything useful I know about when it's Wednesday late morning to late afternoon in California or Pacific time.

Intelligent Updater updates on Monday through Fridays if you go there to click the hyperlink--you only need click the first one in my picture. Holidays like today, weekends don't yield an update except for very rare times. Blaster got one on a Saturday or Sunday. We had a thread during/shortly after Blaster hit in August that tracked its updates and Jefferson charted those from Trend Micro.

There have been rare weekend updates. Unless something big is breaking, you aren't going to see an update anytime on the 25th at that site. Possibly, but maybe not you'll get one from Intelligent Updater before Monday December 29th. I bet you don't see Live Update give you a definition until Wednesday December 31--I don't know if it updated on Wednesday 24th or went to sleep on Christmas eve.

Ed. SMBP: I think this Symantec KB is explicit when it tells you that Live Update is only Live on Wednesdays. It does not explicitly tell you that Intelligent Updater usually updates Monday through Friday, but not weekeds and holiday weekdays like today December 25 for example. Whatever constitutes an alert situations for these people to post through either on a weekend or a holiday is rare to the point of being less than 5 times in over three years:

Re: Nav Update

I use the Intelligent Updater since day 1 of having installed SystemWorks back in 2000.
By a quirk - or just cuz I was curious - one day I hit the LiveUpdate button, and found that the LiveUpdate had a program update as well as the virus update...so now on Wednesday each week, I do my Intelligent Updater as usual, then hit the LiveUpdate so check if any program updates are included...and haven't missed a single program update since 2000.
I do wish that Symantec would include the program update within the IntelligentUpdater...would save at least 1 minute of 'work' on my part . Am on cable, so it doesn't take long, but I do have to get to my Forums to read the latest goodies - and being a member of 21 Forum sites...every 'minute' counts!

Yup this makes a good point Lonnie---don't see why they wouldn't combine them.

Re: Nav Update

I am locking this thread. It was NOT posted to be a preaching box for those who think one is NOT to use "Live Update".

It was started to let that users know that there is a "Live Update" for Norton's.

Now running HP Pavilion a6528p, with Win7 64 Bit OS.
