Logitech Mouse & VBA Editor (Office 03)

G'day All

I have a logitech cordless mouse (several actually) and I love it, except for one thing. I can't get the scroll roller to work in the MS VBA editor. I chased this up with Logitech a while ago and after a few confusing e-mails back and forth they basically told me that "you can't expect it to work with all software" - which was disappointing.

The only option I can find in the logitech settings is either to change the degree of scroll, or to enforce "Use MS Office Compatible Scrolling" - and while this appears an obvious fix - whether it's turned on or off, doesn't make a difference.

The mouse is a Cordless Mouseman Optical (and I have the same problem with their newer MX700), USB, Driver version 9.78, MS WinXP SP1, Office 2003 (although I had the same problem with Office XP).

Any thoughts?

Regards Ken

If it's any consolation, I have a Microsoft IntelliPoint Optical mouse (I may have the name a bit wrong) and that has the same problem.

I have the Logitech optical wheel mouse provided by Dell; the mouse wheel works almost everywhere but not in the VBA editor, nor in the VB6 editor.

It's a registry setting. I prefer not to use the scroll wheel anywhere, especially in the VBE, so I haven't kept track of how to turn it on in the VBE.

Purportedly, Intellipoint drivers from the MS website will enable scrolling in the VBE.

Ah, that's it! You have to install the mouse software (which I never do) to get scrolling in the VBE.

Re: Logitech Mouse & VBA Editor (Office 03)

I try to avoid installing software that I don't absolutely need. This contributes to the stability of my PCs. I would prefer to miss out on VBE scrolling than install a Mouse Driver with limited benefits.

Re: Logitech Mouse & VBA Editor (Office 03)

Well, that's all very well. But if there's anyone out there who IS aware of the required registry setting - please let me know. And I do have the drivers installed - still can't scroll in the VBE.
Regards Ken.

Yes, MS strikes again! What we've been saying is that it isn't a registry setting issue after all - it's a Microsoft monopoly issue.

Re: Logitech Mouse & VBA Editor (Office 03)

I used Windows without a scroll-wheel mouse for 10 years, but as soon as I got one, I started to resent all the applications that didn't support it. The VBE is a prime offender (this is in Office XP), but I haven't gone looking for new drivers just yet. Don't want to break what seems mostly to be working!

Re: Logitech Mouse & VBA Editor (Office 03)

Yeah, I think you need the MSoft drivers. I have a Toshiba laptop with scroll buttons that works in VBE, but a scroll mouse attached to the same laptop doesn't work.

At one point I experimented with a MSoft rollerball and when I replaced it with a scroller mouse without removing the software, the mouse scrolled in VBE. The thing that gets me about all this is that the scroller works in the VBE properties window, explorer window, help... just not the code window!
