    Select a word AND its parens/brackets (Word 97/SR2)

    Hi - and Hapy Holidays to all!

    Is there a way to do this without manually selecting the word and its parens/brackets? Clicking doesn't work: double-clicking will del the word, but leave the punctuation marks: Control +Delete doesn't do it either.

    Thank you.

    No, Word sees punctuation as a "word boundary," so the only way to select the contents plus the boundaries is to start from one end and select to the other.

    If you can use a macro to "expand" the selection by one character in both directions, here's one:

    Sub GrowSelection1Char()
    With Selection
    .MoveStart wdCharacter, -1
    .MoveEnd wdCharacter, 1
    End With
    End Sub

    Maybe you can assign it a keystroke like Ctrl+Shift+G for quick access.

    Evening - Thanks very much for yoru quick response.

    I shall assign the macro to a keystroke.
