Need small form factor IDE CD-R drive

I am looking to buy a small form factor IDE CD-R drive. I've searched online and at a number of vendor sites and cannot find one. Any suggestions?

<img src=/S/2cents.gif border=0 alt=2cents width=15 height=15> Having used laptop computers for 8 years, I can say that the super-slim CD/CD-R/DVD drives they use are the weakest link in the system. On a desktop machine, I wouldn't trade off robustness for reduced size if you intend to use the drive heavily.

And, given the approximate 4.5" diameter of a disk, I suppose thinness is all you could hope for. Are you looking for external?

I want to replace the standard CD drive in a Dell OptiPlex GX100. It had a small form factor drive with no room for a full size one so small form factor is my only choice. I don't want to fool with an external drive.

I don't have a choice. That's what the system has now for a CD drive and there is not room for a full size one.

Who made the Dell drive? Probably one of the major OEMs. Perhaps you can buy the same one direct or from another source.

    Hi Ronny,
If you are in the UK as I am, then these guys can help. (I also run a small form factor OptiPlex, GX240). Ask for Mike McGill or Raphael. Full details here: http://www.mcgillonline.co.uk/ .
    Good luck.
