USB Optical Mouse & FREE CELL

A friend installed a Logitech USB optical mouse on his WIN 98 SE system and is now having problems with his FREE CELL game. When he tries to play FREE CELL, the mouse pointer turns to an hour glass within the game and he can not do anything. When he moves the pointer to the command line (file, edit, etc) the pointer looks and acts normal. He had been using a serial mouse and I asked him to reconnect it - but now he is having the same problem with it. Free Cell is very important to this fellow - he has won almost 20,000 of the 30,000 free cell games. This seems to be the only area where the mouse does not act normal.

    1. See if Logitech has updated drivers for your friend's mouse - MouseWare is up to version 9.79. Check http://www.logitech.com. This might solve his problem.
    2. Some newsgroup posts mention em_exec.exe (part of the Logitech software) as the culprit. Your friend could try stopping em_exec.exe, but this will probably influence the way the mouse works in other applications too.

Do the Newsgroups specify that there is a problem with free cell?

I don't think there is a specific problem with FreeCell in Windows 98 SE; it seems to be in the mouse drivers. The posts are easy to find using Google > Groups, with search terms freecell optical mouse or freecell logitech.
Another site that might be useful is http://www.cathyjenkins.com/articles/freecell.html.

Had my friend upgrade to the latest Mouseware and the problem is solved. Thanks for your help.
