Very Large Archives

Hi there,
I know we have a speed problem with the new lounge, but I'm also experiencing another problem and I would like to know if I am the only one. (BTW, I have not changed any settings in my Control Panel.)
The problem is that today the daily archives that I receive have started to arrive containing not just today's but all the postings for the last 5-6 months! These are varying in size from 900kB to 1.7MB depending on the forum in question. Even with broadband this is making a dent in my progress when using my email program. Some of the archives are duplicated and the received times are staggered throughout the day rather than appearing as 06.00 hrs on my system. So far today I have received 10,036MB of 'daily' archive in my Inbox! Has anyone any idea of what's happening, or more accurately, why?

Re: Very Large Archives

Just what I needed at this stage <sigh>

Sorry Tony, as you can imagine, with the speed degredation, it is impossible to work on it at the moment, so, we'll cancel all daily archives for the time being.

I'll keep you posted.
Cheers, Claude.

Re: Very Large Archives

Hi Claude,
Thanks for the acknowledgement of the problem - sorry to be the bearer of bad news. I don't yet know if I'm the only one affected but I can assure you that there has been no new hardware or software installed at my end within the last week. The daily archives were normal up to the 31st Dec, nothing on the 1st or 2nd Jan, and then the big deliveries on the 3rd Jan. Let me know if you want more details (archive start /end dates, file sizes, etc) or want me to change settings in my control panel in the Lounge.
Re your statement that "...we'll cancel all daily archives for the time being.", I assume that you mean just my archive delivery. I would hate to be the cause of all the archives being halted!
TIA.

Re: Very Large Archives

There's a serious problem there inconveniencing our users, I don't know the cause of it at this stage, so, to be safe, all notifications are now cancelled.

And no, you weren't the only one having this problem
Cheers, Claude.

Re: Very Large Archives

I am luckier than you, then - my received posts are 10 MB for the Daily archives of Excel, WindowsXP (which arrived twice, even after the announcement that the daily archives are momentarily cancelled)
The "small" mails that arrive are 1 MB - coming in regularly.

I take it as a good opportunity to spend this snowy Sunday on catching up on all the issues that could be of interest - and it gives me a good reason to stay away from my new years resolution - training to become a skeleton...

Re: Very Large Archives

Hello HHougs,
Using my New Year's resolution (to try to be optimistic), there is an up-side to this! We now have 'six-monthly archives' which are very convenient for doing searches, if the Lounge search facility goes AWOL again.
Claude - Thanks for all your efforts. The speed seems to be back to normal now. Is there any chance of reading some technical (post-mortem?) statement about the problems and how they were solved, at some later date? It might be informative for network novices like me who want to know more.
