    Word Registry Entries (2000 SP3)

Operating System is XP Pro, SP1...issue is a random lockup and I have renamed NORMAL.DOT to test. While searching the registry for the HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftOffice9.0WordDat a key I noticed that not all machines have this key. I find such keys under the "local machine" but wondered if others have seen this configuration and discovered what might possibly cause this to be missing?

We are running Access 97 but the rest of Office is 2000.

The Data key is a mysterious blob of customizations. If Word's default settings have been customized

I will have a user change some setting in Tools, Options such as default file type or file locations and see if this key gets generated. I checked several machines in our group of support staff and we all have the key and we are using the same machines so the image should be identical. Hah.....

This page lists some of the settings changes that would affect the DataSettings key:

What exactly does the Data Key in the Registry store? (MVPs.org)

I plan to change some of the View, Toolbars settings which should trigger this key as that is one of the three entries.
