    Reformat Problem (XP Pro)

I need to reformat my computer and reinstall XP. I'm having a problem doing so, and here are the details:

My computer originally came with Windows ME and I have an XP Pro upgrade disk.
When I originally installed, I chose NTFS and a new install.

    Here's my problem:

My system restore CD's won't work. Tells me it can't find my hard drive and that it might be because of a loose cable.
It prompts me to FDisk and then when I try, it tells me it can't find any partitions.

I have reformatted before (but I didn't choose the NTFS).

I've performed some searches, but can't really find anything that solves my problems.

I downloaded the delpart.exe, but it won't boot on a floppy and won't run in Windows.

    Any help is much appreciated.

    Thanks in advance.

    Re: Reformat Problem (XP Pro)

The relevant question is, what is the file system that is currently on the disk?

Download a Windows 98 startup disk and start the computer without CD-ROM support. Run the FDISK tool and view the partition information. By booting from floppy, you are not even using the hard drive until you type the letter "C:" and press enter. FDISK will allow you to see how the disk is setup, and if indeed something is wrong then the program will not run.

I have XP Pro right now.

I'm trying the Win98 boot disk.

I'm reading this that it's NTFS. Is there an original ME disk? Or is there a hidden ME FAT32 partition?
