Wacky! Need 2002 File Locations (WXP, Office 2002)

My office 2002 has, for some time, been very wacky. To name a few idiosyncacies:
    1. Outlook hangs up word when using HTML quite often
    2. Word refuses to save new macros
    3. regularly can't save Normal.dot and get into an "in use" loop.
    4. Cannot do Control A in an excel file
    5. Adobe Acrobat hangs up when converting Word.
    6. and so on
I've been advised to unistall Office XP and resinstall from discs. A pain, but if it works, worth it. so, my qustion is, can i find a nice list of locations for Office files I want to re-use, such as my dictionary, autotext, templates and so on? (I'm leery of using the old Normal.dot.)

    Many thanks,
    Michael

Problem is that some of these files may be corrupt, so you run a risk by re-using the old files after a clean install. If you really have so many problems, I would try to do without them.

Some of the settings for Office XP are in the Windows Registry, under HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftOffice.
Others are in Cocuments and Settings<yourname>Application Data and Cocuments and Settings<yourname>Local SettingsApplication Data

Some of this could be related to add-ins and load order. So, if either of these help, a complete re-install might not solve anything:

    1. <LI>Assuming you use Outlook as your e-mail editor, load Word before you load Outlook, and do not exit Word at any point until you have shut down Outlook. (Or, don't use Word as your e-mail editor.)

<LI>Unload all Adobe Acrobat add-ins from Word.
Can't help you with Excel. Presumably it has a way to check and clear keyboard shortcut assignments?

Thank you - both posts are useful. I do [did] load OL with startup, and I've stopped doing that, and will try loading Word first. If that doesn't help, I will unistall and re-install, starting [ugh] from scratch.

    Thanks, Michael

The "in use" messages can be caused by temp files which accumulate when Word crashes. See step 1 in <post#=197827>post 197827</post#>.
    Cheers,
