photo editor configuration

i am still using photo editor from the tools in o2k.
it is associated with jpg files,
but when i doubleclick a jpg file,
it tells me that this is an unknown file type.
it worked originally after the install,
and i do not know exactly when it stopped to work.
any ideas?
reinstalling office (with all conversion files)
did NOT help

Re: photo editor configuration

Try right clicking on a jpg file in Windows Explorer, and then selecting Open With. Scroll down to Microsoft Photo Editor and select it and also tick the box that says Always use this program to open these files. Then click OK. That should fix it for you.

alas, this does not slve my problem.
the file extension .jpw is associated with
photo editor. so when i doubleclick a jpg file,
phooto editor is started,
but then in complains that it cannot read the file format.
but the fle is ok.

Re: photo editor configuration

what program created the jpg? there are a few programs that include extra information in the file and PE can't read those. resaving using a program that removes the extra fixes it.

What are your NT/Win2k user previleges?
PhotoEditor needs at least PowerUser. Their was an older MsTechnet Article, but it disappeared.

Add your userid to the local group PowerUser. That worked for me.

BTW: this is typical Microsoft . Sometimes I think, they do not use their own products and the software designers are from the moon and never worked for a real company with daily business.
