    Norton Anti-virus (Windows XP)

After I had performed the Norton Anti-virus live update last night, my OfficeXP takes forever to start. Word always says requesting virus scan. It takes more than 2 minutes before I can start a blank document. Right click on any Windows folder also takes a long, very long time to have the short cut menu pop up. Apparently 4 other friends of mine have the same problem (only after updating NAV). Does anyone encounter the same thing?

In the main NAV window, click Options, then select the Miscellaneous tab. Make sure that "Enable Office plug-in" is clear (NOT ticked), then click OK

Don't know whether it's actually related, but you might like to have a look at this post about a new NAV/Word problem over on Slashdot. HTH

I had that exact problem after the updates.

Symantec Tech Support had me go to: IE tools>Internet options>advanced>Security and UNcheck the "check for publishers certificate revocation" box. It worked like a charm after that. They advised to go back after a few days and check the block again. Apparently ther was a outdated certificate hanging around and that's what did it.

Edited to add: That is what the link that unkamunka is talking about.

I unchecked the Office Plug-in and now everything seems to be back to normal. Thanks for all the advices.

Thank you for passing on the tip from Norton Tech Support, Bob: unticking the Security setting in IE. That seems to clear the problem for me. We'll see how it works the next few days. Am much obliged -- this problem had stressed me out! David

You are very welcome. Glad it worked out for you.

That's what this Lounge is all about, passing along tips, knowledge and information to all. I think it's particularly nice since it's shared by people all over the world, not just in one area. <img src=/S/cheers.gif border=0 alt=cheers width=30 height=16>
