    Login/Startup (Windows XP (Home))

Hi, all. Pardon me if this was covered at some previous time, but bear with me...

I am trying to find out why my 18 month old Dell is now MUCH slower that it has been in the past. In attempting to find out the legit and non-legit reasons, I noticed (by watching the Processes in the Task Manager) that all of my Office apps (Word, Powerpoint, Excel, and Access) all load and then go away while my XP session starts. Does anyone know why (or if) XP should be doing this? Most of the other startup stuff seems legit. Also, am I far off base in assuming that my Norton Firewall might be helping slow down my system a bit?

Thanks in advance for your input.

If this has only just started, try looking at <!post=this post, 329007>this post<!/post>. If that fits your circumstances, you could also try turning off Check for Server Certificate Revocation in Internet Options. (If you don't know how to find that, look <!post=here,329006>here<!/post>.)

you can also go thru msconfig (Start -Run - msconfig) under the startup tab and see what starting up during boot.

And if you're not already running some kind of scumware detecting/cleaning software, <!post=check this starpost and ensuing posts.,296439>check this starpost and ensuing posts.<!/post>
