How to remove white space bottom of post

This morning I was edited twice to remove white space from the bottom of the post. The problem is I would remove all white space if only I saw any in preveiw. Even on that thread there is more space on the posts from the originator of the thread but it really doesn't even hit my radar because it's only about 5/16".

After the first edit, on my next post I went over it carefully in Preview, particularly at the bottom where I signed my name to see if there was any white space between the last line where I signed my name or between paragraphs and couldn't find any. With respect to links I usually will double space because I think it can make it easier to read particularly if a KB/link has a long title.

I'd really like to edit out the white space to save someone else time, but I just can't find any. Maybe someone could show me what is meant with a screen shot so I could eliminate the problem.

What and who edited you this morning? I've looked at your posts from today and I don't see any evidence of a problem. The only thing I do at the end of a post is NOT hit the Enter (carriage return) key after the last line of my post, 'cause I know that my "sig" is gonna go below.

I edited them. There was 4-6 line feeds below the "SMBP"
Next time it happens I will grab a screen shot.

Re: How to remove white space bottom of post

I am curious. I found that I had added some line feeds to my "signature box" on my "profile page". I finally noticed that I had extra white space below my name in my posts and most of the other loungers did not. I went back in and deleted those line feeds and now it seems more normal. Not sure if would pertain to this paticular problem but it did turn out to be a solution to mine.

What I was doing was keying off the scroll bar which seems to kick in after so many lines of type, and then my name was down at the bottom with no where to go because I couldn't scroll it down any more--so I must be missing it. The reason you didn't see the edit wasn't that I was deleting it, butI clicked on edit to look at the box to see if I could tell anything and then when I hit post again it eliminated Dave's edit--what puzzles me is if sometimes I leave space at the bottom and sometimes not and I don't consciously do it any differently.

Perhaps the extra lines creep in when you paste many links into a post? See for instance <post#=327206>post 327206</post#>.

In <post#=329951>post 329951</post#> you've given us a fine, new example of having excess white space at the bottom of one of your posts. HTH

Check your signature in the control panel. I have a feeling you've got a few linefeeds in there, istead of a blank field.

I don't have anything filled in for the signature. I don't know if putting something there would help. I thought that signature space was reserved for a graphic or a unique way of signing like using a different font. I did notice in that last post Unkamunka referenced that there was still some play in the scroll bar, but there seems to be white space even when the scroll bar is all the way down and there is no more space under the name. I thought that was the case on the two Dave edited, and sometimes if you put a graphic in, there is extra space not impacted by how much you cropped--i.e. outside the graphic--I just checked in 329951 and put the scroll bar all the way down before reinserting the graphic, and that didn't make a difference.

Hans--

I need to look at a few overlinked posts, and I will (no lack of them), but I think that defnitely happens. In the Lounge thread Unk mentioned, 329951 where I tried to show dragging the IE namebar "e" to desktop to turn into a Lex favicon, though there are no links, and I went back and made sure the scrollbar was all the way down before I inserted the image (for some reason if you edit with an image you always have to reinsert the image anyway), and there still is too much space. There are no links in that thread unless numbering points made a difference there and I don't think so.

What I take from this then, is links can add white space at the end, but other people have put a number of links in their posts and not had the problem, so there must be something to do besides making sure there the scroll bar is all the way down before you put in your name. I wish I could figure out what that is, and if making a signature would help, I'd do that.

Skitterbug--

I don't have a signature at all. Maybe there is something I could do in that space. I wonder if simply putting my name in that space would do anything. Sometimes putting too many links seems to matter, but I have seen posts with a lot of links, (mine and others) that don't have extra space at the bottom. With images in, I try to scroll all the way down before adding the image, but that seems to have no effect.

Well I don't know what you are looking at when you edit <post#=329951>post 329951</post#> but I can see a lot of 'white space' when I edit it.
Did you try using the delete or backspace keys?

Try clicking on the button marked 'Preview' before the one marked 'Post It'.

Re: How to remove white space bottom of post

Hi SMBP, I am not well equip to answer why the white space is there if you don't have a signature established in your profiles with extra line feeds in it. I wouldn't think that the area reserved for a signature would show up in a post as an extra blank spot.

I wonder however, if at the bottom of the text pane in which you compose your post, where it says to "include Signature" what option you might have checked there? If it is checked "yes" and you don't have any signature created, would it then just add white spaces? Just a thought...

Re: How to remove white space bottom of post

I don't know how you have your Lounge profile set up, but you keep talking about the scrollbar and that has nothing to do with composing your post, not directly anyway. I suspect that whatever you're TRYING to do with the scrollbar is putting the wite space at the bottom of your posts. When you're composing a post, I'm sure you don't hit "carriage return" unless you want to double-space, and that's correct to do. When you've entered the last line of your post, double space, type your "SMBP" as you normally do and then STOP! Unless you need to change something, there's NO reason to mess with the scrollbar (if you have one). The only reason you even see the scrollbar is because of the LENGTH of your posts. After you type the "SMBP" don't even hit the carriage return (enter) again!

The next thing to do is PREVIEW the post, as already mentioned. LASTLY, if you have an attachment, fill that box in, browsing if necessary. A little hint: If you set the display preferences in your profile to a LARGER number of "text area rows" you may be able to avoid the scrollbar completely.

Re: How to remove white space bottom of post

I use the delete and backspace keys and try to always preview. I can see a lot of white space as well, and am trying to figure out every possible way (taking in every suggestion) to eliminate it. I'm also trying to figure out what happens when I don't create extra white space. My scrollbar reference meant if there is no space in preview, and that bar is down to the bottom ( it usually kicks in as here on the first letter of my 5th typed line). I also tried eliminating the greeting "Bob--" or "Leif" in hopes that would impact, but it didn't.
