    Remove Folder's Read-Only Status...For Real? (Home Edition)

    People,

Had a file management problem in my multitracking software (SONAR XL 2.2) whereby...to consolidate all the audio files for a particular project, I had to reassign the data path for the project's audio files by saving the project under the same name; & selecting the existing audio folder.
    No big deal . . .

. . . but when I attempted this, SONAR couldn't select that particular folder, due to the fact that it was in Read-Only mode.

So I navigated to the folder in Explorer, unselected the Read-Only attribute; & hit *Apply* & *OK.*

Went back to SONAR; & tried again...same message...folder was Read-Only.

Went back to Explorer; & sure enough, it was.

Tried it again, with the same results.
So, my question is: How does one make the attribute status of a folder permanent?

    Thanks,

Did you close Sonar before you changed the file status? Was there any other window or application displaying the file or its contents? My guess is that something is holding the file open, although I have seen this behaviour for other reasons.

    joeperez,

    Thanks.

Did all that (right down to changing the folder status with the attrib syntax at the command prompt). . . doesn't work.

What doesn't work? Remember, with Windows explorer you'll still see the read only attribute. You must check the read only attribute from a command window to ascertain the tru status.

Have you tried opening the folder and selecting all the files in it, then right-click & select Properties and uncheck the Read Only box??

    joe & Doc,

Yeah, I found the Attributes Column under Details View in Explorer, where it lists a Folder's status as "R" or "S" ("Read-Only" or "System.") You would think the damn green box would go away tho...after editing the Registry & changing Folder attributes at the command prompt! Jeeze!

    Thanks for all your help,
