    Can't Open/Edit a Report 'printed to File' (Access 2000)

The report in Access gives a perfect preview and prints wonderfully. However, I would like to edit the report and send it out as an attachment to an E-mail. Have tried most programs to open/edit it... most just say unable - unrecognizeable format. Word and a couple of others do open it... but just look like the attached file. What is the best way to get it to look like the original Report in Access... and be able to edit it?

The simple answer is that you can't. The report doesn't physically exist until you print it out, and reports are not interactive. What kind of "editing" did you have in mind? Usually if you want to present something like just a part of the report, you do that by filtering the records included.

Thanks, Charlotte. I did play with it a bit more... exported it as an Excel file rather than print to file... not as pretty, but got all of the data there which I could edit. More than one way to skin a cat, I guess.

Most reports can be exported as a Word document, but when that is done, they are .RTF documents, and you loose any graphics. If we really want to preserve formating, we usually use Automation to create a Word document that mirrors the Access report. If you don't want people to edit, you can create snapshots, or print to PDF format.

But why are you editing data? You never explained that. The whole idea of a report is to present a snapshot of data in the database. If you start editing, then the report is no longer valid.
