    Print Preview activates Toolbar (2000/SR-3)

I have a toolbar (in a global template) called Button Palette that contains numerous pictures that can be copied when creating toolbar buttons. However, if I start Word & switch to Print Preview, the Toolbar pops up. I can turn it off for that session, but it pops up again if I close & restart Word (after switching to Print Preview). I can't figure out how to get rid of this behavior.

I've can delete the toolbar from the global template to prevent this behavior, but I'd rather not. I've copied it to different templates to see what happens. As long as the toolbar is available in a global template, it will pop up when I switch to Print Preview. Deleting & rebuilding the DATA key hasn't helped. Nor have any of the steps in <post#=197827>post 197827</post#> <img src=/S/blush.gif border=0 alt=blush width=15 height=15>.

Any ideas. I could copy the toolbar to a template to upload, if anyone feels it would help.
    Thanks,

Try setting .Enabled = False in all containers where it exists?

    Hi Jefferson:
I don't know where that setting is. And will this prevent me from showing the toolbar from the context menu when I want it?
    Thanks again,

I guess that was rather ambiguous, wasn't it.

    CommandBars("My Bar").Enabled = False

should prevent My Bar from opening on its own. It also remove My Bar from the View>Toolbars list.

By containers, I refer to the CustomizationContext, which can be set to NormalTemplate, or pretty much anything else that can store a CommandBar object. If you do not set the CustomizationContext before issuing the .Enabled = False, it will affect either Normal.dot or the last thing you altered, depending on... well, I haven't experimented with it exhaustively.

I don't know how .Enabled = False would interact with the context menu. Perhaps setting .Visible = False would work better??

Upon further review, I can't see any programmatic way to tell CommandBar objects whether they should be open or closed in any particular mode. This does seem to be the sort of thing that should be stored in the Data key. Hmmm...

Re: Print Preview activates Toolbar (2000/SR-3)

Thanks for looking at this. I just can't figure out why it always opens when I switch to Print Preview. It's as if there is something in the Print Preview command that shows the toolbar, just as it shows the Print Preview toolbar. Most toolbars take their settings from the DATA key, but this one doesn't seem to. That's why I deleted & recreated the DATA key. In fact, if I dock the toolbar at an edge & close Word, the next time I open Word & switch to Print Preview, it floats again. I do want to keep it in the context menu, just not pop up when it shouldn't. I'm at a loss.

I'm attaching a template with the toolbar. Do you think you could see if it's the toolbar or something about the toolbar?

In Word 2002 SP-2, the toolbar was displayed the first time I opened print preview, but after I closed it, it stayed away, even if I quit and restart Word. I looked at the toolbar's properties in VBA, and I can't see anything out of the ordinary.

Re: Print Preview activates Toolbar (2000/SR-3)

Thanks for looking at this Hans. In Word 2000, I found that even if:
    1. I started Word using winword.exe /a at the command line.
    2. Opened ButtonPaletteToolbar.dot
    3. Switched to Print Preview & closed the toolbar, & then closed the template.
    4. Opened ButtonPaletteToolbar.dot again & switched to Print Preview, the toolbar came back.

That seems to eliminate any add-ins, normal.dot, or the DATA key as the culprit. Must be gremlins. <img src=/S/smile.gif border=0 alt=smile width=15 height=15>
