    Mail on Server (OL 2003)

    <img src=/S/hello.gif border=0 alt=hello width=25 height=29> Loungers

Althought the option to leave a copy of the mail on the server is unchecked, I was surprised that when I went to check my e-mail via the web view, I found 1441 messages while I have been downloading them via Outlook all along.

Is there anything I need to check other than that little checkbox on the Tools | E-Mail Accounts | More Settings | Advanced tab | Delivery?

When the connection gets terminated, say when it times out, does Outlook bring the messages it had downloaded since the start of the session up until the time out, or does it start from fresh?

    TIA

The settings you haveare the correct ones. It looks like, however, you've become a victim of your interrupted sessions! If a connection is terminated - on most mail clients (not just Outlook) - the messages are usually not deleted from the server. HTH

I figured out that much, after I was surprised by what I saw on-line.

So!!! <img src=/S/confused.gif border=0 alt=confused width=15 height=20> how do I download the mess of off the server? Do I have to tell Outlook to do something, or do I tell the mail server to do something?

All of the messages appear new on the server, but Outlook seems to only get what it wants.

    TIA

There are some utilities that let you view the headers of your POP mail messages and delete them directly from the server. In a very, very old folder (June 2001) I found downloads for Easy Notification and Magic Mail Monitor, but no evidence as to whether I tested them. You could search for information on these and see if they lead to a handy solution.

I know that Outlook 2003, or maybe even 2002, has the option to Download Inbox Headers, and then process them. But I was truly surprised when I simply mossied over to the web view, and found the mountain of messages still on the server.

I know lately, my Internet connection is not up to par, and I had many time outs, but what happens if you cancel the operation, do you at least get what you have downloaded up until the canceling?

TIA, I will Google and check these utilities.

Can you log into the email server by going to your host web page?

What is your ISP and we may be able to help from a different direction.

Now running HP Pavilion a6528p, with Win7 64 Bit OS.

    <img src=/S/hello.gif border=0 alt=hello width=25 height=29> Dave

Thanks for your reply. I had contacted my ISP and they now are up and running full speed. I was able to download all of my messages, I simply moved them into a temp folder on the server, and then moved them back to the Inbox and in about 3 hours I downloaded about 9000 messages.

    Wow, things do pile up.

My e-mail provider is UKOnline.co.UK, and they are wonderful, but the problem is having an ISP who will tell you they were upgrading their services and not simply leave you to wonder.

Things are back to normal, and speed is great, when it comes to Internet access.

    Thanks again.
