    pst file problem (2000)

I'm experiencing problems with a pst file:

    1. When I right click the file in the folder list and choose close the error "The operation failed. An object could not be found" appears.
    2. Sometimes when clicking a sub folder I get the error "Outlook.exe has generated errors" and Outlook quits.
    3. When I right click a certain folder the option to delete is greyed out.

I have run the file through scanpst and no errors were reported.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Are you doing this while Outlook is open?

Is so, its a big No No!!!

Try to exit Outlook and then delete what ever you need.

I only want to delete one sub folder from the pst file, so surely I must have Outlook running? When I ran scanpst on the file Outlook was closed.
Any idea why I can't just close the pst file from within Outlook?

Is this a Corporate/Workgroup installation or an Internet Mode Only Installation? Do you just have one PST showing in Outlook, or is there more than one? If more than one PST , does the problem occur only in one PST? Can you tell us more about your setup?

    John

Installation is Corporate/Workgroup. I have multiple pst file files showing in Outlook. Only one pst file has a problem.
The folder which sometimes generates the error in Outlook.exe contains mail items but based on a custom form.
The folder which cannot be deleted is named "Tasks". Tasks cannot be deleted from the ost file, but this is a pst file.

    Is this enough information?

    Thanks - Graham

The default Task folder cannot be deleted (which is why you can't delete from the OST), but if you have your default Task folder as a server side folder, then PSTs do not require it. if you are in a corporate environment using Exchange, how are you set up for server-side folders?

There could more than one reason for your problems. You could have a corrupt item in one of the folders, especially the Custom Form messages. You may need to run outlook with /resetfolders, but it will of course reset them, which you may not want to do. If the file size of any of your PSTs is near 2GB, you may need to split that PST, or you'll run into problems. And although you mentioned that you ran scanpst.exe, are you sure your ran it on -all- of your PST's?

My default task folder is held on the server, so I don't understand why I can't delete the folder named "Tasks" from the pst file. The pst file I'm having problems with is only small. I've recreated the contents in a new pst file leaving aside the "Tasks" folder and the folder with custom forms. My problems now is how to remove the original pst file from the folders list.

Have you tried right-clicking on the PST in tree-view and then choosing close?

My first problem arises when I do that : the error "The operation failed. An object could not be found" appears.
