    Lost Keyboard Device

I was having problems with an "internet" keyboard and in trying to fix it deleted the keyboard device from the system devices section. Now I cannot get Windows to reload the keyboard device. There is no selection in "Add Hardware" for this. Is there another way?

    Re: Lost Keyboard Device

Have you rebooted, or maybe better yet, power off and restart? Seems to me that, unless something is wrong with the keyboard, Windows (of all flavors) should recognize it at boot time. Also, watch the screen when your BIOS is doing power-on test. There should be a message for the mouse and keyboard ports being detected. I really don't know if that detected message will appear if the keyboard is non-functioning. If it still isn't recognizing it, can you get a temporary keyboard to try the process with? What happens when you get to the Windows logon screen - does the KB function at all?

Thanks for both replies. Reboots did not help but I finally did totally power down and restart THEN windows (XP Home) finally recognized there was a keyboard attached and reinstalled the device. How little things can be so frustrating! The keyboard is operational again.

Thanks for taking the time to help. See my reply post above - It was Win XP Home and the keyboard is now working.
