Can't get whole numbers to display correctly (XL97 SP2)

One of our users' Excel programs is behaving inappropriately... she is trying to enter whole numbers (783, 890, 560).. but no matter what workbook or worksheet sheet she opens or creates, when she types the numbers, it comes out at 7.83, 8.90, 5.60. I checked the cell format, and they're set to general. I looked for a personal.xls or book1 template that might have set up something strange. She doesn't have personal.xls and there isn't anything in xlstart.

If I manually change the 7.83, etc. to number with zero decimals, it rounds up.

Ahh... I know this must be a simple thing. I re-installed Excel so it would go back to the default. Any ideas?

Under Tools, Options, Edit tab, UNCheck the box "Fixed Decimal Places". Close and restart Excel to make it stick. Post back if this doesn't help.
