Is it 'new skin time' yet? Please?

Claude/Mark

There was a long thread before Christmas where Mr WyllyWylly was generating new and different Lounging skins for the delectation of Loungers.

Now that the vaguely traumatic Move to New, Improved Servers has taken place, to the great rejoicing of the populace, me 'n' Skitterbug would be interested to know whether there is a timetable for their introduction?

You would make an olde man very happy...

I'll implement the new skins once the lounge is operating properly. While it may appear to work 100%, there are still some hefty problems behind the scenes. I can't really make any changes to the lounge until those are resolved.

It's a bit like "search". One day, all of a sudden, it will be here . In other words, no timetable as such.
Cheers, Claude.

Growing pains, ye say? I too empathize, the Lounge has got to be the single most hacked bulletin board on the net...there's no place like it!!

Hey, we're talking about w3threads here - not Linux. We've got a very good archive of work from already here, but there's always room for improvement.

Hmmm. Seems I misunderstood the use of the word "hacked"?

Some time ago, in the dim, dark past of computing a "hacker" was slang for a programmer, along with "code cutter", etc. The people now referred to as "hackers" were called "crackers" as that was what they did, and still do. Crack computer security.

Similarly, a hack is/was often used to refer to any coding change. He who hacketh must therefore be a hacker.

I meant hacked in a loving sort of way. When you have a pet project, you tend to do little things to make it better and keep it fresh. The original BB software on which this version of the Lounge is based lacks many of the nice things that and have given us. From a broader perspective, even now many forum systems do not have a lot of neat little things that we take for granted in here (the pop-up tag panels, for starters). When you love a project, you hack at it.

Ah! Over here we call that "bodged", or perhaps, better, "modified heavily"! <chuckle!>

To completely this thread...

I passed a van parked outside someone's house the other day, sign painted on the outside of this white van it said

Bodgett and Leggit - Plumbers

At least they were honest!

Let me echo JG's statement, with a bit of a change to it.............You would make "me" .......(an olde man - which I am not!).... very happy" whenever the skins do get introduced to our lounge! But I am also a very patient sort of person - as I am certain JG is - so whenever the skins "appear", we will just be very delighted!! I know I am looking forward to trying out WyllyWylly's creations when they are on line and ready for use!! Three cheers to our Lounge, however as it is the grandest place to be a part of!!!
