Inserting text in prepared forms (OfficeXP)

I have several prepared forms that include underscores to mark where text should be entered. I am trying to discover a way to be able to type on those underscore areas with either inserting the text and goofing up the formatting or using overtype and deleting the underscore.

    Anyone have any ideas?

The easiest way to do this is to use table cells and apply border shading under the cell.

Hmmmm.....do you mean use a one cell table in the form where you need to type the info? I think I see how that would work.

    Thanks

Yes, one response = one table cell

If you don't use cell borders on the left, right and top edges and hide the table gridlines then the user will only see the underline and can type in happily.

If you allow the user to provide multiple line answers you might not like the output so much though.

    Dick,
You say you have a form. Is this a Word Form (Tools>Protect Documents...>Forms or a form you've made up for users to fill in using Word?

With a Word Form, a field is highlighted in gray, but it will print out as if the grey background didn't exist. Also, the user can't type anywhere else but in the fields.

    Hi Dick:
A great article on underlines can be found at Forms: Fill In The Blanks
    Cheers,
