    Message Rules (2003)

Does anyone know how the "move message if assigned to category" works. Does it have to be the category of the message?

What I want to do is move messages sent by any one of a huge number of people all relating to a single project into a single folder. I have each of the contacts assigned to the category I want, but there doesn't seem to be an option to move based on contact category, only on message category.

What I want to avoid is trying to maintain a huge list of people within the rule.

    Thanks.

AFAIK there is only one "type" of Category within Outlook. It does appear, however, that the Rule can only really work with Sent Messages - unless you can set up criteria to assign Incoming Messages to categories. If you can do that, then you would run the Category Rule after first running an assign to Category Rule. HTH

    Hmm. That's what I suspected.

Since I would have to define every user who sent a message in order to get the category assigned, there seems little point in doing what you suggest. I guess I'll just have to stick to what I've got at the moment. <img src=/S/sigh.gif border=0 alt=sigh width=15 height=15>

    Thanks anyhow.

Is it possible to put all the relevant Contacts in a particular folder? That way, you could corral all the targets by simply having the "specified address book" Rule (having first nominated that folder to be shown as an Outlook Address Book). HTH

Ah...now there's a cunning plan. Let me see...

...ah yes! Seems to work. Thanks.
