Using a hyperlink to open database (Access 2002)

I created a database for my supervisor to list all the Access databases that I support. In it I created a hyperlink field so that when someone clicked on the hyperlink it would open the database. A short while later I noticed that several of the databases I had opened that way started asking me for a password when they were opened by just clicking on their filename in the My Computer window. None of these databases were password protected. Suddenly I was unable to open them unless I used the hyperlink which would open them fine without asking for a password. I was unable to import everything into a new database because even the import process wanted me to enter a password. The only way I was able to fix my databases was to open each one using the hyperlink and then export each table, query, form, etc. to a new database.

Using the hyperlink is the only thing that I could think of that may have caused this problem. Has anyone else ever encountered anything like this? Needless to say I removed the hyperlink and now have a text field displaying the path and filename for each database.

Thanks for taking time to respond and sure enough when I think about it, the databases that encountered this problem were set to compact on close.

After starting to respond that I doubted the hyperlink could cause that, guess what! I decided to check the Knowledge Base and voila - <!mskb=322860>Microsoft Knowledge Base Article 322860<!/mskb> popped up. It sounds like it matches your problem to a tee. And the resolution looks to be exactly what you did. Hopefully this is fixed in Access 2003.
