Moved files on network.. hyperlinks broken - fix? (97 SR2 or 2003)

We have a user who has spent a couple of years developing training documents (around 50) that have tons of hyperlinks in them (probably 100-200 pages long with 5-15 links per page). The hyperlinks all point to files on the same network server, (example: server1data...). Our IT dept has moved all data from server1 to server4. Now all the links in all the word documents are wrong. Since they are all broken at the same point, is there a macro or something I can run in the documents (or in the main document folder for those documents) that will rename all links from server1 to server4? I don't care if ths is done with a third-party utility program. I don't know VB, so writing code is out of the question for me.

Our own <!profile=macropod>macropod<!/profile> has written macros that will update all links within a document: see <post#=261488>post 261488</post#>. With 50 documents it shouldn't be too bad using it, but perhaps, he can adapt it to work on all documents in a folder.

I feel real stupid Hans. When I went to the link, I saw the attachment to the post. When I opened it, it appears to be just text. I don't know what to do with it. I don't see any code!

    No need to feel stupid!

The attachment is a Word document. Right-click the link, then select Save Target As...; this should start a Save As dialog. Post back if you still have problems.

So I right-clicked and saved the file to my c: drive. Now what? I open it and it's just a word document? How do I get to the code part?

Since the document contains macros, your macro security setting must not be High, for then the macros will be disabled. Medium is the preferred setting, you will be prompted if you want to enable macros.

    - Open the document.
    - Select Tools | Macro | Macros...
    - In the list of macros, select "Field Link Updater".
    - Click Run.
    - Select the type of field you want to update - in your case the first one, HYPERLINK.
    - Click OK.
    - Select the option that you need, probably Option 2 (all links are to the same folder) or Option 3 (links are to different folders)
    - Click OK.
    - Select the new target folder.
    - Click OK.
