Personal Macro Workbook: PERSONAL.XLS (2002)

How does one transfer macros in an Excel 2002 PERSONAL.XLS running on a Windows 98 system, to Excel 2002 running on a Windows XP system?

XP seems to handle PERSONAL.XLS in a different and inscrutable way.

(I have a LOT of macros in my old PERSONAL.XLS, and I do NOT want to have to type them over on the new computer.)

Copy the Personal.xls file to

Cocuments and Settings<username>Application DataMicrosoftExcelXLSTART

on the Windows XP machine, where <username> is your Windows XP user name. Since it is already an Excel 2002 file, that should work without adaptation.

The safest way would be to open a new workbook on the XP system, record a macro, but in Record Macro dialog box, store macro in Personal Macro Workbook. Exit the macro and then exit excel. You don't need to save the workbook, but do save the changes in the Personal Macro Workbook. Then use an explorer search to find the new Personal.xls. Replace this workbook with a copy of your old Personal.xls. HTH --Sam
