date text to datevalue (Excel 2000)

The data file that I get has the accounting period (=month) as APR-03. When I do a Datevalue function, I get 04/03/04. The text really means month of April 2003. Given that there is no end-of-month date embedded in the text itself ('APR-03 is the cell content), how might I convert this to a date I can use logically? I imagine datevalue must have a day not just a month, so having a correct 4/30/03 and 5/31/03 is part of the problem. Thanks.

With the Analysis ToolPak installed, try:

    =EOMONTH(DATEVALUE("1-"&<datecell>),0)
-John ... I float in liquid gardens

EXCELlent! I was able to use the Formula Evaluator to understand the logic and hope to build on it in the future. Thanks much! Might have a Pivot table question later.
