Best way to implement Diagonal Divider? (XP)

    Hello,

As per the screenshot attached, can you suggest the best way possible to use a diagonal line in Excel? Seems to be much easier to do in Word.

    Thanks,

    BD.

I'm not sure what you want to know. Judging from your screenshot, you know how to create a diagonal in a cell; it's not harder to do so in Excel than in Word, I'd say.

If you want to display "function" in the lower left and "title" in the upper right of the cell, select "function" in the formula bar or in the cell itself, and select Format | Cells..., activate the Font tab and tick Subscript, then click OK, then repeat for "title", but with Superscript instead of Subscript. Then select the cell itself, and increase the Font size until it looks the way you want.

If you meant something else, please clarify.

    Hi Hans,

That's exactly what I was trying to achieve.

    Best regards,

    Hans,
Can you pls tell me how to create a diagonal divider in the cell. Will it work with merged cells also?
    Thanks in advance.

Re: Best way to implement Diagonal Divider? (XP)

    Hans,
Pls disregard my question as to how to create the diagonal line as I have found the answer. However, I do not seem to get the words properly in the right place when i create a diagonal line for a merged (up and down) cell. Any suggestions on this??

It may be easiest to not merge the cells. Put the items in the upper and lower cells (left and right justify as needed) and then add a line to act as a divider

You seem to be able to get the diagonal line in position OK. <img src=/S/yep.gif border=0 alt=yep width=15 height=15> Type the first Word say Date press Alt + Enter twice; type the second word say Name .
Add your diagonal line. Return to the Formula bar and add spaces before the word Date to move it to the right of the cell to clear the diagonal line. Hopefully <font face="Comic Sans MS">Bingo</font face=comic> all is well. The number of spaces added may need a little experimentation to get the layout looking good.
